Kardena CARE Air 4: smartwatch with blood pressure monitoring & ECG

The Kardena CARE Air 4 is a new smartwatch with blood pressure monitoring and a cuff built into the strap. With this health watch you can measure blood pressure directly on your wrist: the cuff inflates briefly, and after just 30 to 50 seconds you see your readings on the display. Recording an ECG is just as easy – and you can keep an eye on your other health values every day.

Blood pressure on your wrist

The cuff is built into the strap and only inflates briefly for the measurement. The rest of the time, the CARE Air 4 wears like an ordinary wristwatch.

Measures without the app

The watch measures blood pressure, heart rate and other values directly on your wrist, no smartphone needed. The G Band app shows how your readings develop over time.

More than blood pressure

The watch also records a single-lead ECG, monitors your heart rate around the clock and, in an emergency, calls up to five trusted people via SOS.

A health watch that monitors your blood pressure and checks your values every day

Check your blood pressure in the morning, follow your heart rate and steps during the day, record a heart trace when you need to: the CARE Air 4 brings your most important health values together in one watch that you wear all day.

In the G Band app, you can see how your values develop over days and weeks. If you wish, you can share them with your family.

Measuring blood pressure with your smartwatch: how it works

The CARE Air 4 smartwatch shows your upper and lower blood pressure (SYS/DIA) in mmHg, together with your pulse. To measure, start the function directly on the watch and rest your arm calmly on a table. The air cushion in the strap audibly fills with air and then releases again. After 30 to 50 seconds, you see your result. The smartwatch does not measure blood pressure automatically while you sleep.

How to measure your blood pressure with the CARE Air 4 smartwatch

A measurement takes just a few steps. What matters most is the correct fit of the watch and a calm posture.

  1. Put the watch on correctly

The watch sits on the top of your wrist, snug but not too tight. Use the included measuring tape once to set the right strap size.

  2. Rest for five minutes

Sit upright with both feet flat on the floor and your legs uncrossed.

  3. Rest your arm at heart level

Support your elbow on the table and keep your wrist relaxed and straight. Do not press on the air cushion.

  4. Start the measurement

Press the lower button or tap “Start measurement” in the “Blood pressure” menu. After 30 to 50 seconds, the result appears – until then, don’t talk or move.

The smartwatch saves every reading in its “Measurement history” – simply swipe up on the measurement screen. In the G Band app, you can see how your blood pressure develops over the weeks.

If the air cushion stays inflated after the measurement and feels uncomfortable, simply open the strap clasp to release the air. If you feel numbness or pressure pain, take the watch off.

For comparable readings: measure blood pressure on the same arm and at the same time of day where possible. Avoid measuring straight after coffee, a meal or exercise. Leave one to two minutes between two measurements.

Good to know: With heart rhythm disorders such as atrial fibrillation, with tremor, after a stroke, or with severe anaemia or circulatory problems, readings can differ significantly, or the measurement may stop.

Important: The CARE Air 4 is not a medical device. Its blood pressure readings are for personal self-monitoring only. The watch does not replace an approved blood pressure monitor. Never change your medication based on these readings.

Advanced sensors for blood pressure measurement

The CARE Air 4 smartwatch measures blood pressure by applying pressure, the way a cuff does: a small piezoelectric pump inflates the air cushion in the strap, while a pressure sensor detects the pulse at your wrist and calculates your readings.

Micro-airbag cuff: measuring with pressure

The air cushion briefly applies pressure to the wrist. From the pulse beats the pressure sensor picks up, the watch calculates the upper and lower values in mmHg.

Optical sensors: values from light signals

Smartwatches without a cuff usually derive blood pressure from light signals through the skin alone. On the CARE Air 4, the optical sensor only handles heart rate and blood oxygen, while the cuff measures blood pressure.

CARE Air 4: blood pressure smartwatch with ECG & heart rate monitoring

The CARE Air 4 is more than a blood pressure smartwatch. It also records an ECG and monitors your heart rate throughout the day.

Heart rate around the clock

A four-channel optical sensor can monitor your heart rate continuously, including at night. To use this, switch on continuous monitoring in the G Band app. You can start a single measurement at any time in the “Heart rate” menu.

Example ECG recording from the Kardena CARE Air 4 in the G Band app

ECG with one finger

Tap “Start measurement” in the “ECG” menu and place a finger of your other hand on the electrode on the side of the watch. The back of the watch stays on your skin: a single-lead heart trace is recorded between the electrodes on the back and the side electrode. The G Band app then shows the report.

If the recording keeps failing, clean the electrodes, your skin and your finger, for example, with a little alcohol.

Good to know: The ECG recording captures your pulse and heart rhythm. It does not replace a 12-lead ECG at the doctor’s and does not make a diagnosis. Please do not use the ECG function if you have a pacemaker or other implants, as metal implants can distort the recording.

Measure your most important vital signs and keep an eye on your health every day with the CARE Air 4 smartwatch.

Quick health check-up

One tap, several values: the watch checks various health values in one go and creates a short report that is synced to the app.

Blood oxygen (SpO₂)

A guide value for the oxygen level in your blood. A calm posture and the correct fit improve the measuring conditions.

Sleep tracking

Records deep sleep, light sleep and total sleep time, and rates your sleep quality. Sleep data is only available if you wear the watch while you sleep.

Wrist temperature

Measure no earlier than ten minutes after putting the watch on. The ambient temperature affects the reading; it does not replace a fever thermometer.

Body composition

Estimates body fat and BMI. To measure, hold the electrode on the side while the two electrodes on the back rest on your skin.

Tension and tiredness

Using skin conductance, the watch estimates how tense or tired you are. A pointer for everyday life, not a stress diagnosis.

SOS function: call your saved contacts directly from the watch

In the G Band app, you can set up to five emergency contacts. When you trigger SOS on the watch, they are called one after another until someone answers. The watch uses the phone connection of your paired smartphone.

SOS uses your smartphone’s phone connection. It calls your contacts, not the emergency services.
  1. Save your contacts

Choose up to five people as emergency contacts in the app.

  2. Set up calling

Also switch on the Bluetooth call function. Your smartphone must be switched on and within range.

  3. Trigger SOS

In an emergency, one tap on SOS on the watch is all it takes to trigger a call to saved contacts.

  4. Test it once together

Arrange a test call with someone you trust. That way you both know how it works.

Not a replacement for 112: The SOS function does not replace the emergency number 112 or a personal alarm service. The watch has no SIM card of its own: without a paired smartphone, SOS and calls are not possible. If you have acute symptoms, call 112 first.

A practical smartwatch for walks, work and on the go

Take calls on your wrist, set reminders to take vitamins and track your activity easily. CARE Air 4 offers everything that a standard smartwatch has nowadays.

Bluetooth calls

When the second Bluetooth connection is active, you can talk through the watch. A compatible Bluetooth phone must be within range.

Messages and reminders

See calls, text messages and app notifications on the display. Alarms can carry your own text, for example as a daily reminder.

Steps and sport

Keep track of steps, distance and calories. Start a sport mode for walks, cycling or yoga.

Handy extras

Weather, alarm, stopwatch, calculator, torch, music control and a breathing exercise are also included.

Frequently asked questions about the CARE Air 4 blood pressure smartwatch

How does the CARE Air 4 watch measure blood pressure?

With a cuff in the strap. For each measurement, a small pump inflates the built-in air cushion while a pressure sensor measures the pulse beats at your wrist. From these, after 30 to 50 seconds, the watch calculates your upper and lower blood pressure and your pulse. The readings are a guide for everyday life.

Does the blood pressure measurement work without a phone?

Yes. With the CARE Air 4 smartwatch, you measure blood pressure directly on the wrist, no smartphone needed. The watch also measures heart rate and other single values on its own. To see how your readings develop over days and weeks, use the G Band app; SOS, calls, and notifications need a paired smartphone.

Does the CARE Air 4 watch have an app for tracking blood pressure over time?

Yes, the G Band app. It saves your blood pressure readings and clearly shows how they develop over days and weeks. If you wish, you can share them with relatives. The app runs on smartphones with Android 8.0 or later and iPhones with iOS 13.0 or later, and connects to the watch via Bluetooth. You can also see earlier readings directly on the watch in the “Measurement history”.

Does the CARE Air 4 measure blood pressure automatically while I sleep?

No. The cuff in the strap does not inflate on its own at night. You start each blood pressure measurement yourself directly on the watch, ideally during the day, at rest and sitting down. Your heart rate, on the other hand, is monitored automatically around the clock, including while you sleep.

Can I shower or swim with the smartwatch?

No. The CARE Air 4 smartwatch is rated IP66 against dust and splashing water, so rain and sweat are no problem. Showering, bathing, swimming and saunas are not intended, because the strap contains an air cushion.

Is the CARE Air 4 a medical device?

No. The CARE Air 4 is a health watch for everyday use. Its readings are for personal guidance. To diagnose or monitor high blood pressure, you need an approved blood pressure monitor and medical advice.

Can the smartwatch detect high blood pressure?

No. The blood pressure smartwatch does not make a diagnosis. It shows you your readings and how they develop. If you notice consistently high or unusual readings, talk to your doctor.

Is the CARE Air 4 a good blood pressure smartwatch for seniors?

Yes. You start the blood pressure measurement with one press of a button, and the watch can read your results aloud. The menu is available in English, and the square variant has a large 2.06-inch display. The strap with the built-in cuff should be adjusted carefully once. The app is best set up together with a family member.

How long does the battery last?

Up to 7 days depending on use – 4 to 7 days for both variants. Frequent calls or measurements can shorten battery life. Charging takes about two to three hours with the magnetic charging cable, on a USB power adapter with 5 volts and a maximum of 2 amps.

Can I use a different strap?

The watch comes with a black silicone strap with a micro-airbag cuff. Additional straps are available separately in our accessories. For blood pressure measurement, you need a strap with an air cushion.
