OSRAM technology

Health watches are intended to provide information that promotes an active and healthy lifestyle. They receive information from sensors that track your activity and other measurements. The data and information provided by these devices are intended to estimate your stored activities and measurements as accurately as possible, but may not be 100% accurate. This includes data on steps, sleep, distance, heart rate, and calories burned. Health watches are not medical devices, and the data they provide is not intended for medical purposes or for the diagnosis, treatment, cure, or prevention of diseases. As a general rule, you should consult a doctor before starting any exercise program.

The optical heart rate sensors in health watches are a useful means of accurately calculating a user's heart rate at a given time. The purpose of the optical heart rate sensor is to attempt to record the user's heart rate around the clock. The frequency of heart rate measurements depends on how active the user is. When you start an activity with an optical heart rate device, the optical heart rate sensor provides data more frequently, as the optical sensor is always switched on and attempts to continuously measure the heart rate during a specific phase of the activity. This is intended to provide users with more frequent and accurate heart rate data during a specific activity.

OSRAM Technology

Using OSRAM technology, the sensor on our health watches records your activity around the clock and determines values that can be easily accessed on the watch. They are displayed in the form of a clear chart so that they are easier to understand. These health measurements allow for the detection of atrial fibrillation, flutter, atrial extrasystole, ventricular extrasystole, ventricular tachycardia, premature ventricular contraction, ventricular flutter, left bundle branch block, right bundle branch block, and atrial flutter. In this regard, measurement results for blood oxygen, respiratory rate, ECG, and blood pressure are considered, analyzed, and evaluated together by AI using the SmartHealth app.

In our products, comparison measurements occasionally show average differences between devices and may also exceed normal measurements or standard deviations. If someone places their hands in their lap when measuring blood pressure at the wrist while sitting, a higher blood pressure may be measured than at heart level. Generally, the user instructions for wrist devices sufficiently point out that the wrist should be at heart level during measurement and that the arm muscles should be relaxed. This problem generally does not occur with upper arm blood pressure measurements while sitting.

Stay Motivated

Unlike upper arm devices, health watches are not designed to be part of medical technology, i.e., they are not used in the field of medicine like other devices that combine engineering principles and rules with medical procedures in their manufacture. Unlike such biomedical devices, our health watches are used by healthy people who want to improve their quality of life. Furthermore, Kardena® does not manufacture dressings, major medical equipment, or complete systems, like manufacturers in the industry or hospitals. Our watches, on the other hand, are generally used to reduce stress, stay motivated, and transform life into an active and healthier lifestyle.

Kardena® clearly states that it is under no circumstances a medical device, especially during sports, where it should instead serve more as a kind of trend that can be viewed. Continuous measurement is also more a matter of luck: if you move too fast, it will not measure, and sweat is also an enemy of measurement. Since wrist devices can be put on simply and quickly, it is often overlooked that a rest period of at least three to five minutes must be observed before measurement for correct results.

Innovative and Practical

Our devices do not need to meet safety regulations to prove that our users' lives are at risk. However, many measures must be taken during the manufacture of our products so that the conditions and approvals for CE conformity marking are properly managed, designed, created, tested, delivered, and used. Many blood pressure monitors available in stores only provide unreliable values.

The German High Blood Pressure Association tests new blood pressure monitors and awards a seal of approval for their measurement accuracy (https://www.hochdruckliga.de/betroffene/blutdruckmessgeraete). The association's website lists a total of forty upper arm devices and only four wrist devices that have passed the test. Kardena Pro is not among them, but the general trend is clear.
